Personal Details of Baba Haider Zaman:
Sardar Haider Zaman Khan was a former nazim of Abbottabad District in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. He is a member of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). He contested National Assembly election against PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif two times but couldn't win.
During his tenure as nazim he shot to prominence for opposing the renaming of the NWFP to Pakhtunkhwa. He criticised the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, for referring to the province as Pakhtunkhwa - saying this was unconstitutional and done to please coalition partners.
Zaman said he was in contact with the nazims of the southern districts and all five nazims of the erstwhile Hazara Division opposed the name change. If the district was renamed in line with the proposal from the Awami National Party then, according to Zaman, a creation of a Hazara Province would be justified.
He was also involved in a petition against the provincial government of the NWFP claiming that they were curtailing the powers of district government. In March 2006, five months after a devastating earthquake struck the region, Zaman said repatriation of people from tent villages (set up in the aftermath of the earthquake) might be held up due to lack of resources possessed by the district governments. That year he also supported an initiative to raise awareness of the effects of the earthquake.
In 2007 he criticised Pakistani tour operators for the way the organised the Hajj and Umrah arrangements for pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, he also claimed that the tour operators were fleecing pilgrims and pilgrims were unable to get rid of greedy tour managers.
In 2010 following the renaming of the North-West Frontier Province, Khan has again been prominent by his opposition to the new name, he became the head of the Action Committee for Hazara province - he stated that the new name of the province is on an ethnic basis and so deprived the people of Hazara of their identity. In August 2010 Khan stated that the peope of Hazara would stop payments of utility bills until their demands were met.

Province Hazara Movement--An analysis
After renaming of N.W.F.P. as Khyber Pakhtunkhwah, the movement of a separate province for the people of Hazara has gained a huge momentum and a strong support of masses at all levels. The movement of Province Hazara has been initiated under the leadership of Ex-District Nazim Baba Haider Zaman and other prominent leaders who are very active in this movement include Gohar Ayub Khan, Ex-Deputy speaker Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob, Ex-petroleum minister Aman-Ullah Khan Jadoon and Azhar Jadoon.
In the last month, Boards of Suba Hazara (Province Hazara) were formally hoarded at the two main entry points of Hazara Division from Punjab and Kashmir, i.e. at Barian near Murree and at Kohala which separates Hazara from Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Ironically, even those parties whose top leadership supported renaming of NW.F.P. as Khyber Pakhtunkhwah are also supporting Province Hazara Movement at local level. Sardar Muhammad Idress who changed his loyalty after last elections and jumped into PPP from JUI-F is one such example. He is strongly supporting Province Hazara movement. This movement has currently support of almost all major parties in the division including PML-Q, Jamat-e-Islami, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Hazara Qaumi Mahaz and various other small political and religious parties. However, PML-N is playing on backfoot as the whole mud is being thrown on PML-N by Hazara Province movement leaders saying that PML-N has betrayed people of Hazara and got blackmailed by ANP on the condition of third time premiership.
Ex president, Genral Retired Pervez Musharraf has also announced his full support for Province Hazara (and some other provinces as well) and Ham Khayal Group of PML-Q is also in strong support of Province Hazara. Under such conditions, it seems that now the dream of Suba Hazara will turn into a reality very soon and people of Hazara will get a distinct identity based on their culture.
